1 - How we handle 404 Errors: Any web site that displays a 404 error will be visited by our assessors three (3) times over a seventy two (72) hour time frame after the initial occurrence. If the web site displays the same error at the time of the third visit the web site will be removed from assessment and the web site owners will be notified of the error found.
2 - What we believe constitutes one web page: For the purposes of our award program, a page is defined as one (1) web site page that will consist of written content of an informative, entertaining and/or educational nature. Content may also be images as would be the case in an Art Gallery or Photographers Studio.
3 - Our answer to horizontal scroll bars: We use screen sizes covering 800 x 600 to 1024 x 768 using a medium sized font and to ensure assessments are consistent, web sites will be assessed using various browsers including MSIE, FireFox, Opera and Safari. A horizontal scroll bar means the viewer has to scroll from left to right to view an entire page width. We do not accept horizontal scroll bars are necessary - we consider them to be a simple design fault easily corrected and will not accept their display within pages at 1024 x 768 resolution. Even though we ask you what screen resolution you prefer we will assess your web site in both 1024 x 768 and 800 x 600 screen sizes regardless. Exclusions: Any web site page that includes full sized wallpapers where displayed is a thumbnail image or a text link that opens a page with a reduced image which in turn provides an option to view the wallpaper at full size so as to enable viewer to right click and save the wallpaper as a desktop image as well as maps / drawings / photographs of required historical and/or informational value in keeping with the web site main subject.
4 - Illegal bandwidth use: (also known as Inline linking, leeching, piggy-backing, direct linking, offsite image grabs and bandwidth theft.) The displaying of content such as images and/or linked objects within web sites that are held at another persons server space without the other persons knowledge or consent is known as hotlinking. If you have permission for use, please inform us through your award application in the comments section. Please also refer to our Illegal Bandwidth Use - Hotlinking Exceptions.
Some people hotlink directly to images within this web site to make our content display within their web pages. These people expect us to pay for the bandwidth that they are using. There are many forms of bandwidth theft but image/graphic theft is the one that occurs most. Stealing bandwidth is a crime - is unacceptable and will not be tolerated!
We have in place measures that will inform us of images and/or linked objects that are illegally hot linked from this web site. However such systems are not perfect and you can play your part in minimizing bandwidth theft by informing us if you see any image that you know comes from this web site that you think may be illegally displayed within other web sites. The site owner may be using our bandwidth without permission - we can discreetly check out the situation and take whatever measures ( if any ) that are appropriate.
The below image links will open in external new windows. To use the FAE validation process access the image link (below) and insert the URL of this web page.
