Exceptions

•  WebRings where the code requires linking to the WebRing site images and no specific instructions are provided for the user to do otherwise. (Be advised this item remains under consideration.)
•  Linked objects displayed where the web site owner has clear permission to hotlink one example being the Google Mapping Service where a specific registered map key may be held to enable hotlinking to a relevant image. (Be advised this item remains under consideration.)
•  When a web site owner is in possession of a valid document granting Permission to hotlink to an image and/or other object.
•  Displays of online photo album services where the service web sites have the knowledge of and have given consent for use of their facilities.
•  Making use of a neutral third party such as the LinkShare Network where they create text links specifically coded for individual web sites thus fulfilling a unique auditing feature that allows a web site Affiliate resource to ensure accurate commission calculations.
•  When cross loading of images between two web sites owned by one owner applies where the two web sites are hosted at different servers.

However we hold to the belief that written permissions should be sought as when these are available they remove all doubt.
